I'd like to pose a question that I believe I already know the answer to, but want to get verification from some of the Merlin experts. I have a test system in our lab, Legend R4.1, that I changed the configuration to having 5 408-GS/LS-MLX. The original config was 4 408's & 1 016 T/R. I'd setup remote access through one of the trunk ports, but when I dialed in, I got RNA. I went back to the original config, dialed in and connected. My thoughts are that the reason I couldn't connect with all MLX circuit packs in the system was due to not having any TTR's. Is this a correct assumption? Thanks In Advance.

You got it !

W/O a TTR, you won;t have any way to dial digits, and the System is smart enough to know that.

Merlinman, somehow I knew it'd be you ot TouchTone Tommy answering my question! You guys are sharp. After referring to the Pocket Reference, I saw the error of my configuration. I see the 412-TDL have TTR's, so I could possible setup a system utilizing all 412 circuit packs, correct?

Yes, that's why they put them on there so you could avoid the problem of an ALL MLX design, without TTRs.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll be sure to pass this on to the rest of my tech support folks.

You should have been able to connect fine using remote access with your configuration of 5 408 MLX cards. Having no TTR's should not have affected that. When you say you set up a trunk for remote access, how did you do that? Was it dedicated or shared?

Touch Tone Receivers are DEFINATELY needed for remote access. You will find that info as a "note" about 3/4 of the way through the remote access section of the documentation. Also in the section on "Touch Tone or Rotary Signalling".

Ghostin - my remote access setup wasn't the problem as it'd been setup BEFORE I changed the config to 5 408 cards, and it worked with no problem. Taking out the 016 card was the only change that was made. Therefore, that's how I came to the conclusion that not having any TTR's in the system was the problem.

Well, I have at least three systems that have nothing but 408 cards in them, and I can dial in remotely, so perhaps there is a flaw somewhere.

As far as I know, You must have TTR's for remote access, and if you have voice mail.
016, 016ETR, 400GS/LS TTR, and 412LS-ID have 4 TTR's each.
012, 008 OPT, 800DID, 007MM, and 800GS/LS ID have 2 TTR's each.
024TDL has 8 TTR's.
