I am trying to assist in the install and setup of the Tivoli Storage Manager (formerly ADSM). Unfortunately I am doing this somewhat "blind". Limited access to the documentation. I am trying to recall our setup from a former employer and have some holes in my memory. If anyone can please offer ideas or "fill in the blank", I'd appreciate it.

I remember that we had a process running called dsmcad. Whenever I could not get access to the web client through my browser on my PC, I'd log on to the client (an RS6000) and start the dsmcad process. So I remember that process at least.

But there was more than just the dsmcad that would be running, and that I can't recall what it was, dsm"something".

What are the filesets that we should have installed?

Netscape doesn't need to be running on the client does it? I wouldn't think so, because the backups and archives reside on the TSM server, not on the client.

We have it installed to the point now that I can get access and perform backups via the gui. But when I point to the URL for the client, I get authentication errors. I DO GET the front page, but it doesn't recognize the client. It is ANS2604S error. "The web client agent was unable to authenticate to the server."

Any ideas? Remember, amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic.

One of the things you should look for is that dsmserv is running. If you go through your directories you should find a script named rc.adsmserv which on AIX is in the /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin directory. Once this is up, ensure you have configured your dsmserv.opt file to allow access through the web. If you have the Quick Start manual, it helps you through most of it. Or copy some of the files from the old ADSM directories.
