Hi,
I have a new computer and wanted to install SideKick99 + TrueSync. Then of course run tsci-starfish.exe to update all the applications in order to have everything run smoothly...
But tsci-starfish.exe ends up on an error message stating that it was unable to deal with the message gotten from the True Sync server.

Is the server abandonned now or is it temporarelly down only.
Thanks for any help, since I really DO NEED to Install SideKick99 under XP.

Steve

Dear sjordi,
See this page for TruSync version 3.1 Update:

James,
I tried the Motorola upgrade but this one doesn't work with Sidekick, as mentionned on their page.
The tsci application used to make Sidekick99/Truesyncplus work under XP with the USB port. Without running it, it doesn't work.
I installed Sidekick99/TrueSync under XP several times without any problems as long as TSCI did respond.

So now the problem is that it is no longer automatically updated.
I used to backup all the .cab files from a previous install (the same as the ones available from but then, even once copied to the appropriate directories, it complains that TrueSync has an invalid version and can't be used.

Any detailed help on how to have Sidekick99 + TrueSync work under XP with USB would be great.

Steve

Actually I have tried to install TrueSync Desktop instead of SideKick99... this one seems to keep the USB capabilities of HotSync.
But TrueSync Desktop, unlike SideKick, doesn't have Contact Logs attached to contacts!!! So I'm losing most of my additional information. Argh!

Steve

Dear sjordi,
There is a way around this.
Internet Sidekick exports the contact log as a Field I realise that Internet Sidekick is no longer available to download,
If the information in your Cardfile is not Extremely private, I could convert the Cardfile into a tab delimited .txt file that you could then import into a SK99 Cardfile. You could then specify a separate field or fields for the Contact Log.
There is one proviso, the data in any one field is limited to 256 characters in SK98 and probably SK99 too I imagine, so I would have to do the same with the .txt file.
I would probably import it into Access and then separate the two strings (not something I have done before) but I would imagine with Left$ and Right$ it could be managed.
Anyway that would depend on the data you have (it will not be necessary if you don't have more than the 256 characters).
Let me know what you decide and we can go from there.
If you wish to contact me direct then 'Comment' on one of the FAQ's I have written.

James,
thanks for your help.
Actually my contact logs are mostly instructions on how to get to the contact (by car). I can copy/paste it into the Custom4 field or Custom3 and 4 if longer than 256.
So my guess is that I will switch to TrueSync Desktop instead of keeping SideKick99 :-(
It seems that the files are compatible between the two applications. Is there anything else that TrueSync Desktop doesn't have that SK99 does?
Thanks for your help and proposal.
Steve

Actually,
does TrueSync desktop synch with Palm? From my test install, it offered only the REX device.
Thanks
Steve

Dear sjordi,
Try Palm Desktop instead you can get the link from here:

Well James,
I do have Palm Desktop (it came with my Palm), but I don't want it. That's why I am using SideKick instead.

Well, maybe the solution would be to develop myself a SideKick like application and write the conduits...
I should call it SidePick or something like that.
Thanks anyway, too bad I have to abandon such a great product.

Go for it sjordi

Actually I was finally able to reinstall SK99 + TrueSync with my Palm. But I still consider developping the application myself. If I do and it works, I'll let the community know :)
Again thanks for all your input.
Steve

Steve,
What did you have to do to get it all working? Thanks.
Rob

Rob,
I got all the CAB files from page.
Under Accessors, Updates, Experts only.

Then I unpacked the CAB files into the respective directories before ever launching Sidekick and/or TrueSync.
Then I started normally.

Note though that I have still have a problem. ToDos are always marked as unfiled even though they are supposedly matching the "Task" category in Sidekick.
But otherwise it is ok.
