Hi everyone, I'm trying to replace my P5N32-E SLI mobo's NB heatsink with a better one, but I'm having problems.
Firstly, I've managed to get one of the push-pins holding it in place on the motherboard out, but I cannot for the life of me take out the second one...
Also, there s a metal pipe going from my NB heatsink to another slightly longer and thinner heatsink next to the CPU, which seems to be attached to them, how do I remove it once I've managed to free the NB heatsink?

Thanks, much appreciated,

This motherboard uses silent heatpipe technology and so it is going to be very difficult replacing the northbridge heatsink without upsetting the whole cooling setup.
My recommendation would be to leave the northbridge as is and then mount a 40mm fan onto it, this will vastly improve it's cooling ability without damaging the overall cooling implementation.

Just one question: why? Are you having overheating problems with the current setup? If so, it is probably defective and you should exchange it.

These enthusiast-level boards are designed for maximum performance and cooling. It is unlikely that you'll be able to find a better cooling solution for this board than what's on it, at least not without spending ridiculous amounts of money and/or adding fans (and therefore noise).

This may seem harsh, but you didn't even recognize a standard heat-pipe setup. In light of that, what makes you so sure that the new solution is any better?

Sorry Beacons no offence intended but I would have to agree with kmcferrin that was exactly what I was thinking.

I also think that you could well have brocken the interface between the heat pipe cooler and your nb chip and you should probably refit it with fresh paste
