Trying to recreate old site 1

Hi all,
I recently deleted a site via the manage sites link and now I am trying to recreate the site using the same name, but it is stating -
"A site with the specified name already exists." It did exist until I deleted it. All of the documentation clearly states, that if a site is deleted then it is gone for good - except when you want to use the same site name again.

Has anyone seen this before and if so what do I need to do to use the name of the site again....

Hello,

Most likely there are still entries left in the sharepoint databases. I have seen this before, but I did not investigate it very much since I was playing around with a demo environment. Are you running it on SQL or on MSDE?

You could look through the databases and see if there is a reference to the old site name there, however messing around with the databases can break most things so I would suggest being very careful and make sure to have TESTED/verified full backups of everything.
