In reference to above thread,
I made a 98 boot disk.
I currently have the old drive as slave on the primary IDE
If I boot with the 98 boot disk, I can see all my old files on the old HHD, but as being on dirve C:
How do I get these files over to the new HHD?
Or am I to try the convert command from here?
Also, what is drive D: in this environment?
As always, thanks for your help!

Did the new hard drive come with an installation CD? If so, that should have a section where you can clone one disk onto another.

Have you checked the bios for boot order?
I set master drive as master and slave as cable select with success.
Utilities: imaging software (powerquest)$$
or download Knoppix then burn to iso cd(bootable,), free, and manually transfer files.

I also found that some versions of Windows98 had Norton Ghost installed and when trying to access as a slave drive in another OS, they wouldn't allow access( RAW ).
Uninstalling Ghost opened the drives right up.
I believe you need the old computer with the correct bios to do this though.
