Hi guys, I have been working on this puzzle for quite some time and searched all through this great site. Can you help explain/answer some of these questions?
I have an older Nice Recorder recording analog tapped phones but I also have the licenses to record (5) VoIP sessions. I have not been able to permanently record specific Nortel 6140 WLAN phones because the "Alias IP address" can change depending on the last 6140 to register with the 2245.
The 6140 phones have (2) sets of IP addresses;
IP address #1 (I'm assuming) to traverse the WLAN obtained through WLAN DHCP server
IP address #2 called Alias IP address obtained through the 2245 Nortel WLAN Controller (via option 151 in the DHCP scope)
The Nice recorder only seems to capture audio from the Alias IP address capture. I believe we tried the WLAN DHCP IP address but either there was no RTP audio or the IP traffic for that range was not present without RSPAN (I honestly can't remember now).
Sorry for some of this vague information but the questions I have are;
Are the VoIP audio packets only encapsulated in the Alias IP packets that communicate with the Call Server/Signaling Server?
Is the Phone IP #1 just so that it can use the WLAN to have the ability to move through different WAPs and switches of the wireless network?
I don't understand the (2) IP addresses and how they are routed.
My problem/confusion is how I can reserve an Alias IP to record that audio if there is no DHCP scope options on the 2245?
The WLAN 2245 manual refers to setting Static IP addresses but only regarding WLAN Phone IP address #1, not the Alias IP addresses. They must come from an Alias DHCP IP pool? Does that sound right?
The Nortel 6140 phone option for Static setting (versus FULL or PARTIAL) is only for WLAN Phone IP address #1, it still goes to the DHCP server of the SVP (Spectralink Voice Priority) server which was manually set.
I'm so close yet so far away. Any ideas or have others ran into this same snag?
This is from the 2245 manual;
The wireless handsets can be configured to use DHCP or can be assigned
a static IP address. If there is no DHCP Server, the system administrator
must determine what IP addresses are to be used for static addressing.
As well, whether static IP addressing or DHCP is used, a pool of alias IP
addresses must be configured on the WLAN IP Telephony Manager for the
use of the wireless handsets. Ensure that the pool of alias IP addresses is
reserved exclusively for the use of the wireless handsets.
Can I use the HAT software and statically assign an Alias IP address? It's not capable through the Phone administration menu, only IP Address #1.
Thanks in advance.
