trying to link pda to mobile phone with a data cable

hello,
i'm trying to link my ipaq 3850 with a nokia 6310i using a data link cable (ma-9610)for the purposes of accessing the 'net' using the gprs function on the phone. When i try to connect i get an error message saying the number dialled is not there, ( i also get this using ir). Any suggestions?

Does your service provider allow this? Some of them specifically get Nokia to disable this function on the phone.
