trying to learn mod rewrite [rookie]

I am trying to figure out how to write a mod rewrite for this site: kwakster.com

All of my URL's are queries and I really really really dont like that....

I have no experience with apacha and to be honest I am just dipping my toes in the programming world. The site above is my first attempt at writing my own code and working with a DB(SQL).

If someone could point mt to an in depth article that may help or give me a sample of the code I should be learning to obtain my goal here I would be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL!
