My building has a Cisco Aironet 1100 (wireless access point) for wireless free internet service.
I'm seeking information on whether to buy a USB modem and USB network adapter, or does my building already have a modem present(I'm sure it does but do I need a personal one or can I pick up the signal from the WAP and modem with just a Network Adaptor)?

The building has computers and the net down stairs and a WAP on every floor. I'm confused on which devices to buy. Someone else in my building has free service but he brought a modem and network adapter and Im not sure which of two to produce. Just trying to make sense of this so I can show others how to use the WAP and modem the building uses for all computers. Appreciated for any information given.

Do you have an IT department? I'd suggest speaking to them.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

If there is a Wireless Access Point and it is tied into a router that has access to the Internet, you would need some type of wireless device attached to your computer. Most newer laptops come with this integrated into them, otherwise you could pick up a USB connected wireless device. You will probably need to have Windows XP to be able to connect.
