Does the SMTP virtual server need to be set to anonymous authentication to recieve incoming email from other servers? OR is the authentication option only for users who are trying to send out email from the SMTP virtual server?

In other words, will Exchange accept incoming email regardless of what the SMTP authentication settings are?

anonymous means anyone can email inbound. Good idea unless you want to set up usernames and passwords for every email server in the world. (joke).

Authentication is for secure intrasite communication. Ignore it.
