I wanted to have the ability to set alerts for my users, but ppl told me it couldn't be done without installing this Lead-it Sharepoint Alerts plugin
I downloaded it, but I can't get it installed. When I run the *.msi file, the progress bar gets to nearly 100% and then reverses without actually installing the web part.

How do I get this to work?

Hello,

Did you install it in the GAC? I had some problems with it when I did not chose to install it in the Global Assembly Cache. After I did that it installed just fine.

Cheers,
Thomas

What is the Global Assembly Cache and how do I choose to install it there? I just have an *.msi file, and I was trying to install it from my desktop. It did not ask me where I wanted to install the file to...

When you install webparts into SharePoint you can chose to install them either for a specific virtual server (website) or into the GAC (Global Assembly Cache) and make it available for all your virtual servers in the IIS.

Just run the .msi file on the server where you have sharepoint installed and if I do not remeber incorrectly you will be asked if you want to install it Globally (GAC) or for a specific virtual server.

Cheers,
Thomas
