I have followed the pre-setup for oracle 9i to the word but when I go to run the installer I get the following error has anyone got any ideas.

./runInstaller
./runInstaller: ./runInstaller: Execute permission denied.

Who are you when you run the /.runInstaller command?

Also, be very careful where you are when you execute the command if you are using the CDs to run this. Oracle 9i, I believe, has more than one CD you have to use to install and if you are in the mount point for the CD when you run the runInstaller command, you are not going to be able to unmount the first CD so you can mount the second CD.

Another alternative is to mount each installation CD, copy the contents to directories (like disk1, disk2, disk3)on your system. Then run ./runinstaller from a directory on your system. When Oracle prompts you for a new CD, simply reference the disk2 directory and Oracle will continue the installation.

Just to let you all know in my stupidity I had downloaded the wrong version of Oracle. The version I downloaded was for the Intel Itanium Chipset. I have downloaded the correct version and the install went like a dream.

Glad it worked out. Installing Oracle can be tricky -- even with the right version! And your mistake (and admitting it) might help someone else who has done the same thing.
