I bought a netgear rangemax wireless rouiter wpn824 and the netgear rangemax wireless usb 2.0 adapter wpn111na. I can't seem to get a connection to get online :( it says Wireless connection unavailable which there are 4 different networks. Any suggestions? This is my first time using wireless.

Are you saying that you can't connect to the wireless router, or are you saying that once connected to the router, you can't get on the internet?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

the router is hooked up to another computer in another room. It seems to be working and I have even uplugged and then replugged it back in. When I plug the usb adapter it doesn't show that I am online and when I do try to connect to the internet it says there is no connection.

are you using the netgear wireless config software? can you see the wireless network, is it advertising itself? Is the other PC connected by Lan rather than wireless?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Yes I am using the config software and it is showing in the system. The other pc is using wireless.

Go to the other computer and examine the settings it used for its wireless connection.

Ask the other user as well.

Is WEP Enabled, if so what is the WEP key?
Is WPA Enabled, if so what is the WPA key?
Is WPA2 Enabled, if so what is the WPA2 key?
What is the SSID?
What Channel?
Is MAC filtering used on the router?

I am wrong sorry, but the other computer is plugged in or the router I should say is plugged into Cox cable. I also switched to my other hard drive which is using windows me to see if it will work.

So the other pc is using the hub on the back rather than the wireless. I have used one of these before, is your "working" pc got an ip address of 192.168.1.X and a gateway of 192.168.1.1 ? (start > run > cmd > ipconfig)

it maybe your dhcp settings on the router, or your ip settings on your wireless card, compare what the settings are from the working pc and set them manually on the wireless tcpip properties, make sure the ip address is on the same range e.g 192.168.0.5 but the gateway needs to be the same... if this works then we can try and look at your routers dhcp settings

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

[li]It is not a hub on the rear of the router, it is a switch.[/li]
[li]DHCP settings have nothing to do with this issue, as the original post makes clear:[/li]

....it says Wireless connection unavailable which there are 4 different networks..."

The adapter can "see" four available networks, all four of which have some sort of security features enabled. Now somebody enabled security on his router.

This is a case of read the manual to see how to access the router setup pages from the wired computer. Netgear has a fairly decent Help page on the router:
Reset the router to its default by pushing and holding the reset button on the back of the router for at least thirty seconds. Remove power from the router for at least thirty seconds. Holding the reset button in again, repower the router for at least thirty seconds. Release the button and power down the router for at least thirty seconds. Your router is now at factory settings.

Now, look at the manual for how to access the web-based router setup pages. Set up the security features you wish to have. Write them down. Transfer the settings to your wireless adapter.

I'm still very confused. How do I know what the WEP, WPA or WPA2 KEY is? Also the SSID ?? The channel looks like 6 but there is only 1 green light.

WEP Enabled, if so what is the WEP key?
Is WPA Enabled, if so what is the WPA key?
Is WPA2 Enabled, if so what is the WPA2 key?
What is the SSID?
What Channel?t the

have u reset this router to factory defaults? as bcastner suggested in a previous post? if u have then security should be disabled by default. then it's up to u to set the level of security up, have u gone to the router config page, and checked what is set on the wireless settings>?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

This is the first time I've gotten this message which says.

My network connections listed below are diconnected.

Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter
PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter

Plug in your network cables or otherwise connect your network hardware.

I'm confused since I do have the wireless adapter plugged into the USB Plug in on the back of my computer which the USB Plug in is working. But I'm not sure what the PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter would be??

I'm wondering if this is why I can't get online?

Do you see on the back of your computer a connection that looks like a large phone jack?

That is a connector for a twisted-pair Fast Ethernet adapter. It came with your computer.

It most likely is disconnected.

It has nothing to do with your wireless adapter.

so i can just ignore the pci ethernet adapter then? What about the wireless usb 2.0 adapter? that says it's disconnected?

Another ? I have is I just found out that the ISP # on this computer is not the same as my other computer I'm trying to connect to using the router. Would that make a difference and if so do you know how I can get both ISP the same?

You inadvertantly answered your own question:

This will not work. If ISP (original) was Cable broadband, and ISP (New) was cable broadband, you would have a fighting change of it working.

Any other mixture of Cable broadband and ADSL will not work without setting up the router from scratch.

Find (or download - I gave you the link above) the manual. Read it as if the router was brand new. Then do a reset of the router to its default settings (I explained above how to do this). And set up the router.

Do this disconnected from your Broadband router and connected with a cable from your ethernet connector on the back of your computer to a regular LAN (not the WAN or Internet port) of your router.

When properly configured reconnect the router to your modem.
