Trying to get into single user mode!

When I try to get into single user mode I get prompted for the root password or an option to Ctlr D to go on.<br>
I get an error which repeats back the password but also saying root password not found. I am using UNIXWARE 7.0.1 on a DELL x586 platform. I would appreciate any help.
