While our current arrangement for printing has pages being sent to one of two imagesetters, an Accuset 1000 and Accuset 1500 in OS9.2, I am trying to see about starting to send pages in OSX 10.4.11, from Quark 8.5. At first, I was getting the arbitrary font jumbling in a couple of spots with my first attempts. I then was directed to the cups.org Web site, and downloaded PPDs for the two imagesetters, supposedly version Agfa Viper 2.0. The version of imagesetter software that is connected directly to the imagesetters is Viper 1.9.2, on ol' beige Macs that are running OS8 or 8.5. In trying to send to the 1500, using the 1500-A PPD, It came up with the error, "Warning, this RIP is not running a PSE Framework," with the Viper Log file itself citing: "SetPSEFeature is not supported on this RIP." I was able to send a page to the 1500 successfully using the 1000-A PPD, but while I was thrilled that the layout was perfect, with no font issues or other funkiness, the black was noticeably very transparent, with much less density than can be used for production. Any help on getting the font issues to be a nonfactor, while keeping up the density would be greatly appreciated.
