hey does anyone know where I can get or what I need to do in order to create this particular effect. It looks like interlaced scan line over video which creates a kind of tv screen effects. Need help thanks.
One technique that I really like is based around Photoshop. Once you get the basic idea, then the possibilities are infifite.
1.Create a new photoshop file 2 pixels high and one pixel wide. Fill one pixel black and one pixel white. Select all and go to Edit>Define pattern (I think it's in the edit menu - I'm not sure I'm in werk).
2.Create a new file in Photoshop and make it the same dimensions as your video composition (720 x 576 or whatever) at 72 dpi. Select all and go to Edit (I think) and Fill. Choose the black and white pixel pattern. You should now have rows of horizontal black and white lines, each one pixel high. Save file as Photoshop ot Tiff.
3.Import into AfterEffects and place over your video footage using a screen transfer mode (play around with some different ones too). Adjust opacity if needed. You should now have the basic scanline effect.
4.Variations -
(a)Try creating different patterns in photoshop using the same technique (e.g. a vertical line of 2 white and one black pixels etc.)
(b)Use subtle distortion effects on the scanlines layer to make interesting geometric interferences.
(c)Create noisy shapes in Photoshop and use these as displacement maps on your video footage in AfterEffects.
(d)A bit more complex - Use audio of white noise bursts mapped to a noise effect with the LayerAudio Motion Math script (PB only). If you map the same noise to the displacement map amount, then you're on to something pretty authentic.
