I have a field (38) that either has "a" or "b" in it. and an expression that totals other fields on each record. I would like to have a report that will add the expression on all the records that have "a" in field 38 together and then add the expression on all the records that have "b" in field 38 on the same report for a specific date criteria. Please respond like you are writing to a new user. I have only been working with access for a year and learned everything I know from a book and the help section.

try this
I created a test table and report.
I put in a Footer for field38 the I put this in a text box in the footer.
=IIf([Field38]="a",Count([field38]))

It counted 3 records in my sample which is correct for my data.
Also put this in there too for the "b" counts
=IIf([Field38]="b",Count([field38]))
In my case I got 2 which is right.

OK ;-)
