I have an F80 that was passed on to me. Problem is, I
don't know the root password. I mounted a 5.1 CD and
rebooted from the cd. When I try to mount the rootvg with
a shell, I get the following response (scrolling):

/etc/getroofs[486]

What does this error mean?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the CD you boot from MUST be the same AIX level as the installed level.
I don't know if that is your problem but can you check what level was installed.
If not then just reinstall it.

Have you tried a 5.2 cd or even 4.3.3?

Looks like you are suffering from the Kmec virus. My best suggestion would be to restore your latest backup to the server.

Cheers!

Hi

It is important that your CD is at the same Level as the System is.
I see a lot of Problem during Maintenance Boot from CD.
This is Because the Kernel on CDs before ML5 where only 32Bit.....

Check if you can boot from CD and access a rootvg with option access a shell before mounting FS.
then you can mount and check your FS manually.

If you have another System with the Same Level and a DVD RAM: Create from this System a bootable DVD/CD and boot from this CD.
