I have recently taken over administration duties on a Octel 200 running with a Toshiba PBX. There is no terminal at the Octel to connect so that I can try to figure out how to reset passwords and delete old users. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a terminal plugged into the front of the Voicemail unit. The screen only show a square block. I have tried all sorts of key strokes but nothing seems to activate a password prompt.

Your terminal program should run 7 bit/1 stopbit and even parity - and 9600 bits/sec.
Just hit enter..
Using Hyperterminal or TeraTerm choose TTY emulation.

I will try these settings. Im using an old AT&T Terminal that was once used with a G3. They keyboard plugs into the monitor.

I entered the setup mode of te terminal and most of these settings were already set as u describe. I did change the parity to even. When I exit the setup, it know shows Function keys at the bottom of the screen. For some reason it still does not allow me to bring up any kind of prompt.

The prompt should be an "@".
Check your cabling. Just inside the door of the VMX-200 there is a female serial adaptor. Try to connect to that adaptor. Log on by keep pressing the Enter button.
(Also: try to change the TTY settings to WYSE).

(Also: try to change the TTY settings to WT100).

I suppose i make these changes in the terminal setup program?

Yes. Or try to use Hyperterminal.

I was able to make the connection and believe i am logged in. It looks like version 6.1.2. What I need to do is reset some VM passwords. The users have changed so is it better to delete and build a new box or just change password and greetings? This is my first experience with Octel Voicemails. I appreciate the help.

After i logon, i cannot seem to get past the @ prompt. Ive tried a few commands but always only get that @ prompt

You need to logon:
@
@
@
If you get an @-prompt with no text - after 3 times "enter"
then you are logged in.

If the response is "enter password", then you need to write the correct password before...

I have hit the enter key several times and all i continue to get is the @ prompt. I believe i am logged in but cannot seem to make any command work.

Try to write L H or L F to see alarm list or list features

///doktor

I typed in both commands and each time i get a left point arrow with 3 lines and the @ prompt again. Pring enter 3 times only gives me the prompt again. if i don put a space between @ prompt and the command, I get an invalid command message

It seems to me that you're not operating at : 7 bit /
1 stopbit and even parity - and 9600 bits/sec.
What terminal (TTY/WYSE/VT100) mode is used?

Try to call in to the main number using a moden that can handle BELL mode og add ###5 afther the main number.
AT command: ATDT(main_groupnumber_for_OCTEL),,,,,,###5.
(Same serial setup as for the terminal).

Im not sure which terminal mode i'm using. Where can i set that? I dont have another modem though i suppose i can go buy one.

If you run a laptop (with COM / serial port) with e.g. WinXP then HyperTerminal is a component included. Using a serial cable between the VMX and the laptop and using Hyperterminal you should be able to logon as described.
