Trying to adapt from Freehand to Illustrator

I haven't used Freehand in a while either... I'm using the CS3 version of Illustrator, and I'm trying to do the following:
I have an object I copied in from Photoshop. Right now the bounding box when I select it is that, a box. I want the object to be outlined along it's edges, with points I can manipulate. If don't know enough to know what words to search for in the help function!

Its too in-depth for me to type all the step for you
