Trust relationships - cannot find domain controller

We've had this trust relationship setup for years now. It goes down when we have WAN problems, but we are always able to re-establish it with no problems.

This is s 2-way trust. We have out domains in WINS,and in lmhosts. When I do a nbtstat -c I can see that the domains are pointing to the correct machines. However, when I try to setup the trust I get "Could not find domain controller for this domain" Yes,I can ping going in both directions.

Any ideas?

What are you using for name resolution?

we are using WINS,however we also have entries inthe lmhosts files on the DCs.

Had a similar issue once with a one-way trust. Not sure which idea worked for me, but I know one of them did.

1) reboot both DCs (yeah, it's lame... but that might have solved my problem)

2) stop WINS, delete the WINS database, restart WINS (db will be recreated during restart). I remember doing this once on the machines I was haveing problems with, just don't remember if I did it because of the trust problem.
