Hi

The situation is that we have three 4510R Switches with, among other blades, WS-X4418 18 Port Server Switching cards.

I know that on the 4418 ports 1 and 2 are the only non-blocking ports and that the others are not fabric enabled.

I need to know if it is possible to create an etherchannel between ports other than 1 and 2 on the 4418 in one switch and the same in a second switch. I am not concerned if it will block, or that it has to be dot1q, just whether the etherchannel will work.

Thanks in advance

The ports on the 4418 module are 'oversubscibed'. There are effectively 6 Gigabit Connections from the card to the backplane (I think it is actually 6 ASIC's that can handle a Gig each). They are grouped as follows:

Uplink Port 1 -
Uplink Port 2 -
Ports 3,4,5,6
Ports 7,8,9,10
Ports 11,12,13,14
Ports 15,16,17,18

If you created an EtherChannel using ports 3,7,11 & 15 you would not be oversubscribing anything (unless you used the other ports in the group as well. You shouldn't have any problems configuring EtherChannel on these modules but don't use consecutive ports as above.
