Hi,

Our trunks have gone down again. I have tested with CM E8 and it is giving data error. Have just checked the frame with the butt
and theres no dial tone except for a hollow empty sound.Using CM F51 I get the following for one of the lines.

F51>008
0015A15E:FFFFFFFF

F1>0015A15E
F1>0015A15E:FF

I cannot quite make out what the new data FF represent.
I do not know if the card has completely given out and that its just a link issue..And if the link has gone down how do I check if its not on our side but the Telcos? We use IPS 2000.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would disconnect the jumper to the pabx and test the lines again , if still no dial tone then its likely a carrier issue.
if dial tone returns when line is isolated from the pabx then its the pabx side locking up.
-More details would then be required as to the trunk type that is connected. I have had issues with PSTN (CO) trunks being connected to each other and locking up - for this reason we normally dont allow incoming calls on PSTn trunks to be able to be transferred back out on PSTN trunks.
You can work around this with different methods ( reversal on idle ) but it involves the carrier changing the line type.

The lines have come back on, but not all.3 still do not have dial tones after the jumpers are removed. Shows its a carrier problem. I've reported to the Telco but no ones turned up yet.The response around this part of the world is very slow! Our contractor is non-existent!
I cannot tell the trunk type, quite knew to this stuff. The Matworx does list the trunk data and the route but still trying to figure out whats what. Thanks for the tips BilrlZ66. Really appreciate your help.

Well..now I am back to the old problem...all the trunk lines are off again. I have tested at the frame and there is no dial tone or sound from both ends. The other indicators are, red lights on the 2 8COTS cards are flashing more rapidly much faster than normal.Previosly with a carrier problem I have noticed that the lights were not flashing on the trunk cards. And when I dial a outbound number I get a "busy" message on the read out. Is it time to replace the cards? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Pop the cards out then back in again and let us know what, if anything changes. this does sound like a carrier problem though!

No change. still the same.Lights still flashing.
The MJ and MN alarms have just come on as well.On Matworx the fault kind is 2C:LAN application. And 3C:returned to normal condition.

Thanks OzzieG.

Sounds like the carrier again! does dialtone reappear while the cards are out? if not I would definitely be throwing this back to the carrier. One point though, You need to test the trunks at the MDF and not the TPF. If the rules are anything like ours where you are, if the carrier proves the fault into the premises at the MDF it becomes chargeable! So we have to always prove the fault out of the premises at the MDF!

(for those that don't know, The MDF is the Main Distribution Frame and is the demarcation point for the carriers responsibility, the TPF is the Test Point Frame which is the termination point of the system tails and the closest you can practicably test to the system)

Thanks OzzieGeorge. I have tested from the MDF with the cards popped out and there is no dial tone whatsoever. So it is definitely a carrier issue. We are still waiting for the Telco
to respond to our report...more than a week now!

Thanks for the tips.

The Telco have finally come good.My manager had to call their head office to make things rolling and it worked!! Power issues at their end caused the link to be open.
Thanks once again OzzieG for the valuable tips.
