Truncate field lengths with BizTalk?

Can BizTalk automatically truncate a field length for you as the data passes through? I have two applications exchanging HL7 messages and there is a field length disparity. For various reasons, we cannot change the field lengths in either application so some messages reject.

And... If anyone knows about dinosaurs, will DataGate do this?
