I would be grateful if someone could help me create a task field that would tell me if all the task's predecessors are complete. This would allow me to do some desperately needed filtering.
Thanks in advance,
Jay
Hi Jay,
Custom fields may only refer to the current task and cannot reference other tasks. The only option would be to use VBA to cycle through each task and check it's predecessor. Jack Dahlgren has a "Trace" macro on his web site which will filter a project for the selected task's predecessor - but it does not deal with completion data. You may be able to modify the macro.
Thanks for your response. I reviewed Jack's macro which was helpful as indicated that it may be difficult to create a solution. Jack's macro appears to provide information a task at a time and may have a hard time identifying tasks in other parent groups.
Do you believe it would be possible to create a macro that will set a true/false indicator to a task field to indicate if ALL predecessor tasks are 100% complete?
I'm sure it would be possible, but sadly, I'm not the person to assist. If you have some skills in VBA, you might consider posting to the Microsoft forum for programming in Project. See:
I had posted the question in a few places as I was skeptical that anyone would see it; I was proven wrong and will limit my questions to a single forum going forward.
Thanks again for your help, I will continue following-up on this in the technet forum.
