Hello: I've recently been working on a home network where there apparently have been lost data packets over the internet. After having our cable company do some maintenance on our cable modem and exterior wiring, we have deduced that our slow dns translation and dropped packets have been due to our wired/wireless (Netgear MR 814) router. Is there any routine maintenance I can do on it to optimize its performance? I occasionally power down both the cable modem and router. Is there a way, besides Ping, do see if packets are being lost? Thank you in aadvance for any info.

have you tried reseting the router and/or upgrading the firmware? i guess thats where i would start.

also you could replace the cat5 from your cable modem to the router
