I am trying to distribute Office XP SP 2 to my lab computer before I send it out to the company. This is a new SMS network, and new to sms itself.

I can see the advertisment, and run it, but everytime it runs, it just shows up failed 1 min after running. Can someone point me to some log files, or give me some pointers to look for.

Thanks.

I do not know about Offise XP SP2 but I run into a problem with Office XP SP1. During the installation SP1 looks for the original Office XP media (CD or a network path) and fails if can not find it.
When you run "normal" installation of SP2 does it ask you for the CD?

No, just doing the normal install just prompts the user. I don't think that the software is even downloading. It just fails the same minute I run the job.

Where are the logs on the client that say what is happening?

Ok I did some more troubleshooting for this problem, and this is where I am.

When looking at Package Status, for the package and the Site Name, when looking at the path \\%SERVERNAME%\SMSPKGD$\MEM00003 there is nothing inside that directory.

Should there be, and if so, how do I figure out why there isn't.

I am also getting the following error message, which makes no since at all..

Failed to delete virtual directory on the defined share or volume on distribution point "["Display=\\HQSMS\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=MEM"]\\HQSMS\".

Possible cause: Distribution Manager requires the IIS base components to be registered on the local SMS Site Server inorder to create the virtual directory. The base IIS components might not be installed on the local SMS Site Server. Also IIS Web service should be installed on the Distribution Point that needs the Drizzle role. Maybe IIS is not installed on the machine that needs to be a Distribution Point.
Solution: Verify that the base IIS components are installed on the local SMS Site Server. If not, open the Windows Components Wizard from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Select IIS and open Details. Select the IIS Snap-in checkbox and install it.
Also verify that the IIS Web service is installed on the Distribution Point that needs the Drizzle role. If not, open the Windows Components Wizard on the DP system from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Select IIS and open Details. Select the World Wide Web Server checkbox and install it.

I have checked IIS and it is installed on the server with everything there. Thanks for looking.
