I have restarted the service on both machines, also have done a dfsr pollad which was sucessful on both machines. On thing i have noticed is that when I run dfsr replicationstate on DFS02 it shows inbound connections and outbound connections but on DFS01 it only shows inbound connections and 0 outbound connections.
I have been doing some google searches but unable to come up with any solutions that resolve my issue.

The following article suggests that there's a configuration problem on the Windows Firewall. Consider disabling it temporarily to eliminate it as a problem.

I have done that and it is still not working. I am going to try a reboot and hope for the best. I had not tried rebooting because it is a production box and I need a maintence window to bring it down.

well reboot didn't seem to fix the issue. It doesn't state that there is a connection error any more but when I checked the backlogs it shows a very large amount. I did try stopping the replication services on both machines and deleting the private folder hoping that would clean it up but it didn't. I found a hotfix but I am very sceptical of it working.

Watching it it seems like it might be updating be very behind. I am unsure of what to do, this had been working for several months then last week it just seemed to quit replicating.
