Troubleshooting a server hang

Have recently taken over management of a server that hangs every few days. It is a hard hang in that no keyboard or mouse interaction enacts a response, even as the server appears to still be running (fan noise, power LED, etc).

Now, I've just started looking into it and here's what has caught my eye so far: In Task Manager, the process x85xbgnd.exe which I gather has something to do with the Xerox Phaser 8560MFP that is on the same network, is gradually accumulating handles at a steady rate.

I would think that this might cause a soft hang in time so I'm a little confused as to whether this a red herring or not.

In any case, I can find no other information about this or even the process in general out there in the ether.

Any thoughts on how to proceed troubleshooting the server, in general? Also, any particular thoughts on this apparent Xerox vagarie?

Many thanks in advance for all help.

First see if there is a Xerox update. If not, try uninstalling it for a week and see if that resolves the problem. If it does get on Xerox's case for their buggy driver.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
