First off let me just say that I'm not savvy in the telecom field at all. My questions may sound rather lame to some of you pros, but I really don't know what to do. Anyway, my company's phone guy quit so I was thrown into that role without hardly any training at all. One "problem" that has come up is whenever a call is forwarded to someone's voicemail, someone else's voicemail greeting is played before the actual person they're trying to reach's voicemail greeting. Does anyone know why this might be happening and what to do about it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What type of voicemail system?
What does the message that you hear first say? Is it the same message for every user?

I think we use Reparte or something like that. The message everyone hears is the same no matter which site they're at (we have 5 in the county).

Sounds like someone recorded a Greeting in the name field I would get into the Voicemail system and reset the voicemail box.

otherwise I would have the user log into the box and chack personal settings and rerecord the voicemail box NAME this should do it.

I don't understand. How would someone recording a greeting in their name field cause her greeting to be played before everyone else's greeting?

What does the greeting say? That way we can tell wether it is a voicemail greeting or something that someone else recorded.

It says," Hello, you've reached ...teacher's name... I can not answer your call right now, but if you leave your name I'll get back to you as soon as possible." Then immediately it will play whomever you're calling's voicemail message.

If you are using a Repartee watch the port status, while you call one of your extensions. The port ststaus should show which box is active during the first message and which is active during the second message. It sounds like either the name field got changed or you have routing boxes setup in front of all your extensions, or extension mapping was used to send a different message.

Would deleting and recreating that one mailbox that everyone's hearing the message for solve it?

First I would delete the offending mailbox then give a call to voicemail and leave a message. Check for the offending recording.
retrieve the voicemail and check for the offending recording again.

if the problem goes away I would reinstate the mailbox and see if another default greeting was popping on. if it comes back or you cant leave a message I would look on the MAT to see if there is a transaction box that is getting in the way.

FYI you can call the system and see it on the MAT and I believe using the F3 and F4 buttons you can select the port and make it a direct connect. then using F9 and F10 you can listen and record new messages in its place if needed.
