Trouble with user level on shared p drive

I have a database set up on a p drive at work where many users can use at the same time. I tried user level security setting up with just myself as the administrator. It gave me a shortcut to the database on the desktop, and works just fine. My question is how do I set up other users within user level security??? I gave tried several times but could only get other users to work on my own PC??? When the security kicks in it alters the DB from where ever it is saved so only the desktop icon on my PC can open it, how do I get this on other users computers?
