we just replaced a defintiy switch with a bcm 400 now we are experianceing several issuses with some opx's and ATT seems to think it is our equipment but eveything works at the equipment side.
the main problem is the phones have dialtone but will not ring an analog phone. you can hook up a but set and hear a ringing sound but a regular analog phone will not ring even when connected to the staight to the far end demarc
also if they pick up you can establish a call and talk.

we have one office 2 miles away it works fine no problems the other offices are 10-20 miles away one branch has 2 lines working and 2 not .the other branch none of line work properly

has anyone else ran into this issue when using analog ports off a bcm for opx's

I have golf courses with analog telephones a long ways out. But that's dry pairs. Maybe going through the CO is causing the issues?

First thing I would do is put an Analog phone right off the BCM port and see if it rings there. If it does then I would blame the carrier because they are the ones taking from there.

been dealing cariier and i am being told now that the system is not putting out enough ring voltage to trip the b-bit on carrier i am measuring 65 v they need 85v to trip

any idea's

Are you using the GASM8 or the older ASM8?

GASM8: The Nortel Networks GASM8 I/O ports are designated as OPX. This product does provide Telecommunications Ringing Voltages and can be configured to provide Voltage Message Waiting Indicator (VMWI).

we are using the GASM8's
do you know where the ring voltage comes from ,does it originate from the cards or does it come from the system

im thinking since standard ring voltage should be around 90 v and if ring voltage is genarate by the system and not the card i could have a bad system since the problem effects several cards

Did you check the Dip switches to make sure it is set for North America? As far as I know the ring voltage comes from the card. Also what version BCM was it?

yes
device is set to telephone and type is set to external.

My equipment vendor just told me the bcm gasm8 are set for 65v but external ata's have an 80v ring voltage so we are going to order a couple of them and see if that fixes the problem.

Seen that on tip/ring reversal sensitive equipment (ITT Sets, Fax machines and we had to Grd. the Tip on 2500 Network Boards when connecting to a Rolm 9000.

I haven't ordered and OPX circuit in a while but I remember a carrier OPX circuit order specified which end is the PBX and which is the OPX extension end. Our rep. ordered them the wrong direction we always had problems with Toshiba Strata -Analog Telephone Adapters not providing enough ring voltage. We'd reverse the pair, it would work a few times and then stop until the OPX circuit direction was corrected. (I smell a diode somewhere on one wire of the pair.)

What was I thinking?
