Trouble with My Documents permissions

I have our network setup so that each person's "my documents" folder is actually mapped to a shared folder on the server. This way, any time people use mydocuments for files, it is backed up. On the server the Folder is called My Documents (which i created). The permissions are ALLOW for EVERYONE, so that anyone can access it, use it, ect. Then inside the My Documents folder I have individual folders for each person on our network. One of them is not allowing me to access it though. Well, I can access it, but anything in the folder tells me "access denied" even though I'm logged in as the domain admin. I am stuck. I've checked everyone I know there to be permissions set and I'm still stuck. Can anyone help??

Sounds like your policy for redirecting My Documents is configured to allow exclusive access. With this configuration, nobody but the user will be able to access the files.

You'll have to take ownership of the users My Documents on the server if you want to be able to access it. Personally, I don't give the user exclusive access to their My Docs, as it restricts administrative control if files need to be moved or whatever.

Through text, it is hard to explain this sort of problem thuroughly. The domain administrator does have security rights and permissions to both the parent My Documents folder AND each users specific folder inside as well. That's what I do not understand. I can be on the server, go to the secondary hard drive where the files are stored, try to open one of the user's folders in their specific folder and it denies me access. Weird seeing as how I'm using the domain admin username with FULL rights AND I'm on the server where the files are locally stored... I just can't figure it out.

Example of folders:

D:\My Documents\pstrickland\"folders i cant open"

I can get all the way inside of the pstrickland folder, but anything after that denies me access... And again I've even tried giving rights to EVERYONE and this folder still has this problem. Also, when I'm in the pstrickland folder, if I move my cursor over any of the folders, it says "Folder is empty" even though I know they're full of files...
Also, ownership of ALL the folders is to the Administrators group, so that shouldnt be the problem. Even as the domain admin I cannot get into the damn folders...

This may sound like a stupid question, but does the user have access to the folders/files?

Have you asked the user about their My Doc's directory? I'm wondering if they might have done something funky with their documents to lock them down. Possibly used some kind of third-party security tool. Are the folders encrypted or compressed?

There are no stupid questions. It is hard to explain and include everything so I apologize if some of my explanations were not complete.

Yes they have rights to the mapped folder. The funny thing is that even logged in as the domain admin I can't get into the folder. That is what confuses me most. Even when I log into the server where the folders are stored, I still can't get into the folder. Very strange...

I dont believe the folders are compressed or encrypted

Take ownership of the folder that is causing this issue.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
