Trouble with internet connection

Hi all. I got an apple computer that is running os x os. i have problem getting to internet . The same wire worked fine when i connect to my lap top which runs xp pro but with mac it dos not work. could any one tell me how to fix this problem as i do not have experience with mac.

Note : initaly it tried to use Airport extreme wirless internet but i was reciveing very slow connection brcause of wall so i give up on that now i want to use wired one.

sounds like you are trying to use an Ethernet cable for both computers. How is that cable connected? Firewall? Cable Router? Dynamic IP? Internal LAN?

Thank u for u reply. I am using cable router . I also can not find the shared files on the network!! other mac and windows computers can see the shared files on the file server but in this computer i can not !

Maybe the lead is incorrect - some leads are wired so that they can be used to link PC's together without the need for a hub. Hub's, Switches and Routers all cross the wires - so the cables need to be uncrossed. If you need to connect PC's without one of these devices then you can use a cross-wired cable. Maybe this is the problem? Try temporarily swapping the ethernet cable from a machine you know to be fine
