trouble with entering web sites

ok, so what happens is this.. i try to logon a website (

http://www.nyt.com

and ragingbull.com) and it won't let me actually logon. it just refreshes the page.. this site worked.. i was actually suprised.. i have internet explorer 6.0 (yes i know) but this was also happening with ie5.5

i have this on my comp:

norton personal firewall 2002
win98se

norton never did this before.. i couldn't imagine what it could be.

What if any error message (and from what application) do you get. I just tried with IE6 and it worked fine. Do you have any security features turned on, what level is your Internet security set at?

Dear Tech help,

I am having a similar trouble. When I start up Microsoft explorer 6(I have WIN98) I either get my start page (which is NYTIMES.com) with little X 's in a box where the picture or graphic should be or
the messge ..."The page cannot be displayed. Also, when I click on an article in this website, 4 or 5 times I get " the connection was refused.
What is the deal ?

This is frustrating. All of the security settings are on low or completely turned off. HELP!!!

actually, what happens is.. no error messages, the page just refreshes.. that's all..

If you disable Norton, you can find out if IT is the problem.

Have you tried with the ip address for nyt.com, it is 208.48.26.200

Let us know if that works or not.

Try going into Tools, Internet Options, Security and adding the website as a trusted site ensuring that the tick-box for the HTTPS option is de-selected. Add the website in like:

http://*.microsoft.com

for example. Might work?? "It's true, its damn true!"

ok, i posted this message yesterday.. but for some reason it didn't show up..

i tried both those options.. neither worked for me.. the tools security thing doesn't work unless its a "secure" site.. like an https:// prefix and it won't let me use regular ones..

i'm so sick of microsoft stuff..
