I have two vector eps files of two different country flags. I'm trying to diagonally split each flag and place the two split pieces together in a vertical orientation. What's the easiest way to do this in Illustrator CS3 13.0.1? I'm running into brick walls trying to do this. Thanks greatly for the help!

Probably the quickest and easiest way I would do it is to make sure each flag is one group, then create a clipping mask for the group that fits the shape you want (with the diagonal edge). Then you can place the two clipped groups together.

...you only need to clip one of the flags, place each flag on a separate layer, same size, position etc...

...create a box above the flag on top layer, adjust box with the direct select tool (white arrow) to modify the points to make a triangle (select and delete bottom right or left point)...

...select the two points opposite each other then choose object > path > join to close the shape of the traingle, not really necessary but worth knowing how anyway...

...select both the triangle and the flag on that top layer, then select object > clipping mask > make...

...the layer underneath should show through...

...of course if you don't want a triangle clipping mask just use a box shape half the width of the flags instead...

...the clipping mask is fully editable after it is made, look in the layers palette for it...

...window > layers...
