I'm using Adobe InDesign CS for Windows.

I've created a master with a text frame and a graphics frame. I made a page from this master, and I want to select the frames so that I can put a picture in and type and paste text into. However, I am unable to select the frames.

The furthest I've gotten so far is using the place feature (CTRL+D) for image and text files, then clicking on the box where I want them to go. I am able to select and edit the boxes after I do that, but I want to be able to simply select the frame and start typing. I can't do that right now. Any ideas?

Hold down Shift-Control while clicking on the frame (on the actual page) and you will be able to work with it.

ahh, that did it! thanks a million Genimuse!

why do they have to make things so arcane, I had no idea what to do lol.

what's a good resource for learning about masters and pages? I'm really confused on this issue.

hmm, it seems I've lost the text threading that I created in the master. Is there any way to preserve this when creating a page from the master?

Sorry, I don't have the answer for you. I'd think there's a way to maintain that threading in ID but I've never been able to do it, resulting in a ton of extra work for me. Hard to believe I've been using it for years now and can't keep that threading. It was never a problem in Quark. :)

When you create something on the master page and apply it to another page, it automatically locks everything. The radial triangle (short cut menu) button on the document pallet gives you the option of overwritting master pages. This will keep your text boxes, graphic boxes from your master page in line, but will allow you to import text and graphics. If you update anything on the master page it should update if you have Ensure Layout Adjustments enforced.
