Trouble modify existing master shape 1

In visio i created a new drawing using the process engineering template. There is a shape (ball valve) that i would like to modify and add different shape data.
When i drag the master to the drawing page and show the shape data there is are different option under the valve type field. By selecting one of the choices a different symbol is shown.
I would like to edit the master shape so that there is no valve type option. I really do not know what i need to change in the shapesheet to allow me to do this.
I tried removing all protection and ungroup so i can make a modifations to the symbol. That really messed thing up.
I want to keep the shape properties because with the process template i can edit tag formats so that when the symbol is shown on the drawing the tag format shown the letter for my valve and a counter 0 i.e. V-2, V-5
It is probably very simple but i have used visio for about a week.

You can hide that specific custom property through the UI or through the shapesheet.
1) Right click on the Shape Data window and select "Define Shape Data...". This will bring up a new dialg and since Valve type is the first, it wil be selected. 2/3rds down the dialog is two check boxes. The second box, "Hidden" will hide the custom property from the user.
2) The shapesheet method is almost as easy, you need to open the shapesheet, find the row in the Shape Data section and set te hInvisible cell to TRUE.

Since you want to reuse this shape, I would recommend NOT changing the original shapesheet, but to make a copy and modify the shape on that stencil. Of course, this change is minor and can be easily fixed if you decide to change the original stencil. Also, the stencils are protected, so you will have to open the stencil for Edit.
