Linux date ... the man page is just not clear to me ... all I want to do is set the time ... in AIX it is just
time hhmmss

I have tried the -I the -s and -u, looked on the internet for examples ... just cannot seem to find the right syntax.

date 020504223500 MMDDYYHHMMSS
date 02052235 MMDDHHMM

both return the error invalid date

The issue is this is a remote machine so I don't have access to the Bios

What am I missing???

date 02(month)06(day)14(hour)30(minute)04(year) should be enough. Are teh seconds that important?

It seems that this only works as root ... I logged in as root and did a date mmddhhmm and that finally worked

Thanx
