Trouble converting shape to type path in QE-4

I am trying to convert an oval text box into a text path so as to be able to have text flow around it, but when I click on the oval with the text path tool (as per Quark manual instruction) to change the oval to a path, I get an error message saying the shape has two few points to convert. What am I doing wrong?
