Hi,

I don't know what the nature of my problem is: or it is my lack of knowledge of the Windows 2000 configuration or there is a problem with my network card:

I have a Sis 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter and my OS is Windows 2000 Professional.

I installed the TCP/IP protocol and the client for Microsoft Networks. I set the following TCP-options:

automatically obtain DNS-server address and IP address
IPSetting: DHCP Enabled
DNS: no addresses added and Register this connection's
addresses in DNS marked (but unmarked it doesn't work
either)
WINS:
LMHOSTS lookup disabled/enabled (doesn't make
difference)
disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP/enable NetBios over
TCP/Use NetBIOS setting from DHCP -server (doesn't
make difference)
options: no IPSecure and no restrictions on Tcp/ip packets.

When I installed the NetBEUI-protocol and a client for File and Printer Sharing, I could swap the files from my old computer to my new one using a crossed ethernet cable. So the adapter is functioning I suppose.

I have a cable modem which is functioning properly, since I can connect to the internet with my old computer. The settings on that one are:

Win98
obtain IP automatically
obtain DNS-server-address automatically
use DHCP for WINS-resolution
no GateWay-information specified
enable NetBios over Tcp
tcp is bounded with the client for microsoft networks

As far as I know this last point is the only thing which I can't find in my Win2000 configuration.

Is it that? If yes, how should I configure the binding? If no, what other things should I look at?

And maybe this is important to: ipconfig /renew doens't do anything

Thanks for reading until the end.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I figured it out:

my provider apparently changed its policy and doesn't allow two different MAC addresses of nework cards to connect to a single modem or hub-outlet any more.

Pulling the plug out of the modem, waiting a quarter of an hour, resynchronizing the modem and the job was done.

greetings,
swamphen
