I have just started learning mysql and I am using Dreamweaver to design my webpages. I was able to create the the database but the script to insert the tables doesnt seem to work. The database is called GlobalCar and the sql script is insert.sql. The command line dreamweaver tells me to use is GlobalCar < insert.sql. But I receive an error message 1064 you have an error in your syntaxt etc. Why is this. Thanks. A newbie

The error message shows you the query text that comes just after where the syntax error is, so you should be able to locate the error. If you can't locate it, then you could post the text of the error message here.

run mysql client like that

on linux/bsd:
mysql -u yourusername -p -D GlobalCar < insert.sql

windows for 4.0 ver:
C:\Program Files\mysql40\bin\mysql -u yourusername -p -D GlobalCar < c:\pathtofile\insert.sql

Thanks for replying. I cannot login through command prompt so what I do is login using the mysql command line client from mysql 4.1 server. I tried different combinations of you reply but each one brought up an error. Insert.sql is in the bin folder of the mysql program i.e. c:\program files\mysql\mysql server 4.1\bin. Each time I placed the \ before a word it gave me an "unknown command". What am I doing wrong.
