i recently installed microsoft visual c++ standard edition on my computer. i made a short program using a tutorial that came with it and tried to compile it, but in the debug window it said "error spawing cl.exe". i'm not sure what to do about this. i did a search for a cl.exe on my computer and it was there and in the right directory as far as i know. so i don't know what to do. i asked someone i know who also has visual c++ to try this same program and it worked. thanks for you help.

cl.exe is VC++ compiler. Error spawning cl.exe means that the IDE(the graphical interface) cannot start the process/thread named cl.exe in order to compile your program.

This can have many sources, and is an Visual C++ internal problem.

I advise you to install the latest ServicePack (5 I think). It can be downloaded free from the microsoft site but it's huge(130Mb or so). s-)

Blessed is he who in the name of justice and good will, shepards the week through the valley of darknees...
