OK, we had a junior admin here who freaked when he looked in the NT event viewer & saw <username> automatically accessing all of these directories that (theoretically) he shouldn't have had access to - and you guessed it, he deleted the account. (Yes, it *was* the user account designated for Veritas backup.) I've nearly gotten things back to the way they were, but I'm still not able to attach to the Exchange Server 5.5 mailboxes on a separate server.
I've created a new user (with an obvious name this time!) to handle the backups, verified that this user is in the Domain Admins group, and used the Exchange Administrator software to ensure that the backup user (BU) also has Service Account Admin role. I've also changed the settings on all of the services so that the Job Engine, Agent Browser, etc. all run as the new BU.
On the Exchange server, I've changed the Remote Agent service to run as the new BU & I've verified that I can browse to files/folders on the Exchange server machine - the only item I can't access is the 'Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes'.
(NOTE: This username is one word. The 1st time I tried to create the backup user, I unknowingly split the one username into two parts, which created a directory with the name of the 1st part. I then deleted the user & re-created it.)
Any further thoughts on what I can do to fix this?
