Hi there,

I've got 5 computers on a small office network. 4 are running Win XP and one on 98.

The computer on Win 98 is a gateway for ASDL internet to the network so everything is routed through the 98 workstation. We've just aquired a Phaser 350 and am having some difficulty making it network printer.

We have the Phaser Share Ethernet Card and the printer has its own i.p address. However, everytime I try to add it to Win98 it tells me that I need Netware Client installed. I'm trying to do this but seem to go round in circles.

How can I use Netware and Windows together and get this printer up and running?

Paul.

Have u tried going to the configuration page of the printer ( You might have the Netware Print Server setting set as active. Thats just a guess mind.

We have a couple of 350's on our network, and i've only had to add the printers onto the server then share it as per usual.

Your best bet is probably to replace the Win98 machine with a packaged gateway such as an SMC 7004VBR. This unit handles your ADSL connection, acts as a DHCP server for your network, acts as a 100mbps switch for your network, and can be set up to control access as a firewall. Mine was C$59 wholesale so you should be able to get one retail for about US$60.

As long as you set up your 350 with an IP in the range your DHCP server is using, the XP machines will be able to see it. Then use a browser and put in the printer's IP address - if you get the printer configuration page then you know the network is working and the printer is visible.

Then if you use 'add printer' and the built-in XP drivers it will work fine.
