sorry about the trivial nature of this question, but it's something that really annoys me....

When I send an email to somebody in my personal Contacts list, eg John Smith, it lists him as "John Smith (E-mail)". how do I get rid of the "(E-mail)" part? (obviously I would be sending an email to his email address....)

I looked in the Properties (under SMTP Address - Display Name) which shows the info, but doesn't allow me to edit it to remove the unnecessary suffix.

You probably will notice that on contacts that don't have a fax number entered, it doesn't do that. Because Outlook can be used to send either emails or faxes, it does that to distinguish the difference. It may be an annoyance, but I think you're stuck with it, unless you want to keep your fax numbers elsewhere.

Surly,
open your contacts folder within outlook, double click a contact(John Smith), to the right you'll see your contacts email address, below that is the name for display i.e. John Smith(email), delete that and put whatever you wish in it's place, save and close.

thanks for your replies....

sawedoff - none of my contacts have fax numbers listed. I think you're right that I'm stuck with it though!

rwf36 - the 'name for display' you are talking about doesn't appear where you say it does (could be because I'm using Outlook 98??). I have found "John Smith (E-mail)" under the contact properties, but am unable to edit it.

Oh well, I'll just have to live with it (or get a job with a company who use Lotus Notes!).

thanks

Rwf36,
I don't know what version you have, but I wish mine was that easy (I have OL2K with W2K, on an Exchange server). In the 'File as' field, it only shows "Smith,John" or John Smith" but not the (email) field. Thus, any changes only change the name display, and the (email) goes on the end of that.

Also Surly,
you are right, mine also does it on the ones without a fax number. Sorry for the false hope.
