Trimming both sides of a field

Hello,
I have a formula that I am using to sort in a graph
{SAMPLE.SAMPLE_ID} & " " & {SAMPLE.DATE1}

it returns
2013049928 8/12/2013 12:00.00AM

I only want to see the date in the middle. Thanks

I think you would just need to format the {SAMPLE.DATE1} as a date.
