I have just got a 3 yr old generic laptop running a trident cyber 9397 PCI. I loaded up Win98SE and had it all going sweet. (after a few goes)
I then installed linux and had a hiccup setting up display. The monitor went haywire and would only display legibly at 8 bit colour. The problem was also there in Windows.
I tried reinstalling drivers for adapter and monitor (within Windows as I'm a rank amateur with linux) with no joy. I gave up. After installing internet software package, the problem miraculously cured itself. I tried recreating the whole thing to find where the problem occured and how the fix occurred. (silly me) I've managed to recreate the problem but not the miraculous fix.
Please help.
A further note that may help. When linux is loading there is a graphical display listing all that is going on. This disply panel is almost illegible in the current situation, it was fine during the brief time that the display was working correctly. This is before the operating system completes loading.
Hope that all makes sense.
