Tricky Question

I have a DSL line coming into my apartment which is then connected to an SMC router. My roommate's pc is about three years old and consequently cannot receive the signal over a 50' RJ45 (we tested it on a 1' and it worked fine but I'm sure he'd rather use it in his room.)

My question is: What is the most cost efficient way to pump up that signal in his room? He's eventually going to get a new laptop so I don't want to spend more than is absolutely necessary. Would a hub do the trick?

Thanks for the advice.

It's not a matter of how old your friend's computer is, most likely it's the length of the line. DSL's performance wanes as it gets farther from it's node (point where a certain area's customers access bandwidth). Sounds like that 50' is just enough to squash the high-speed access. Short of installing a node, you're probably screwed to put it bluntly. Then again, I don't know absolutely everything so there could be another solution out there.

Later!
